Grim and Gram

Grim is a minor character in Freak the Mighty. The author, Rodman Philbrick, describes Grim as Max's grandpa. In addition, Grim is proud and proctive In the novel, the author reveals that Grim is proud when,"What this young man need is a cup of coffee, real coffee." (Philbrick pg. 42) This shows that when Max saved Kevin he thought he was turning into a real man, so he thought he should have a real man drink by giving him coffee. Furthermore, the author shows that Grim is protective when Grim thinks about buying a gun to shoot Kenny if he steps a foot within a mile of Max. (Philbrick pg. 91) This shows that he is protective with Max because he doesn't want Max to get killed by his father like his daughter did. Based on the character's dialogue in this novel, you can clearly see that Grim is proud and protective.
